A dream of becoming an American Citizen comes true. The Prequel to “Male Order Bride” sets the stage for the precarious position one may find themselves when buying into the image of Freedom.
As I worked with these oversized Chinese New Year's masks, I discover a more complex nature of these personas of beauty. The meaning of the piece shifts and deepens as I further explore the many levels of its re-telling.
"Male Order Bride"
This piece centers around the theme of a man’s desire to have a child. He has gone to the extremes of purchasing a mail-order- bride complete with child. This world of immediacy brings his dreams to life but there is a price.
"Shift" Performance
"Sweet Shop" and "Male Order Bride" were combined to create a gallery show performance called "SHIFT".
